The Road to Austria and Switzerland
This page provides the main index page for the matches and events on the Republic of Ireland's qualification campaign for Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland.
There are 50 teams divided into seven qualifying groups, fourteen teams are set to qualify, the winners and runners-up in each group. Austria and Switzerland are set to qualify automatically for the tournament finals. Ireland after our poor showing for Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006 were a fourth seed.
Ireland have been drawn in Group D and kick off our campaign away to Germanyin Stuttgart on Saturday 2nd of September. On the 7th of October and the return home to play the Czech Republic on the 11th of October at home and San Marino on 15th of November in our last game in Lansdowne Road before redevelopment, that is before it is knocked down!
Ireland resume in the new year with the first game of 2007, away to San Marino on the 7th of February. Our first home game will be against Wales on the 24th of March in Croke Park!! We then play Slovakia on the 28th of March.
In autumn we play Slovakia and Czech Republic (both away) on the 8th and 12th of September. Then two home games against Germany and Cyprus on the 13th and 17th of October, respectively.
